Elementary
school students are our favorite visitors here at Willow Pond Farmstead.
It seems that most twenty-first century kids have never been to
a farm! The experience is one they simply cannot get on the Internet
or in a slide-show. So their wide-eyed questions rejuvenate us.
|
|
Our farm has a collection of modern and “heritage” farm animals,
many on the “endangered breeds critical-watch” list. The
menagerie
includes cattle, goats, geese, ducks, and chickens. Usually, we
have newborn critters of some type. Signs at each animal’s home
identify it, its use (today and also by our ancestors), and breed history.

While
here, most classes also tour our certified Stewardship
Forest.
A mile-long trail system runs through it. And there’s plenty of wildlife habitat there, too.
But
sometimes the highlight of the day is a simple picnic on the ground
beneath a grove of trees. We specialize in memories…. |
|
Our school rate is $5.00 per student per day and includes your school’s
exclusive use of our farm. There is no additional charge for teachers,
aides, people bringing exhibits (or making presentations), or additional
supervising adults. There is, however, a minimum daily charge of
$500. The fee also includes exhibition of our working farm’s tractors,
1926 Model T Ford Roadster truck, and 1940 tobacco barn.
Please
book your school event (and all other farm visits) through our exclusive agent, B&B
Catering.
